Rockery View of Peaks and Stones Out of the West fire lane, turning left and a few steps onwards, one will find a white washed wall with latticed windows and the right middle of the wall has a moon gate, above which a horizontal tablet was engraved with two Chinese characters GeYuan, Green bamboos add color to the gate. It is flanked by two flower terraces, within which tall bamboos stand upright and pose as though they would tower into the clouds. Green and mottled bamboo shoot-shaped stones are planted amid bamboo groves, which reminds one of the idea that even a small stone may kindle one’s feelings. It also makes one associate the bamboo shoot-shaped stones with the expression “spring up like bamboo shoots after a spring rain.” Bamboo shoot-shaped stones are planted after bamboos have been grown but they embody jointly the vitality of mountains and forests after rainfall in spring days. In breeze and under the sun, tall bamboos are teasing with their shadows on the wall, having the charm left over by Zheng Banqiao painting. “Picture of Bamboos and Stones”, fresh and original, it points out the theme of Spring Rockery, which is “How could one bear to hide the beautiful spring scenery, especially those affectionate bamboo leaves stained with rain drops?” The “Picture” expresses tactfully the conception of valuing spring in Chinese traditional culture. |
