Rockery view formed by lake stones

In order to better embody the soft and mild gentle beauty of clouds builders chose carefully those top-quality Taihu stones with the features of being thin, transparent and porous, which are our traditional standards for appreciating stones. Then they put stones in order and piled them up. They made full use of the theory of traditional Chinese landscape painting, namely in piling stones into a man-made mountain, one should know every stone has its own veins but thousands of stones may be jointly formed into one vein. Therefore, though Summer Rockery has great changes, its flavour and tone is free and smooth. The rockery slopes mildly and smoothly and is divided into east peak and west peak. On the top of the rockery there is an ancient cypress like a cover and a small pavilion like spreading wings. At the foot of the rockery there is a stone house bordering the pond. Watching the house on the other side of the pond, it seems deep and succinct. Summer rockery was built by adopting mainly the skill of moving with hands and piling up stones layer by layer. Builders made use of lime stones with exquisite shapes and superb piling skill to express subtle concise and mild beauty of mountain and water in south China. It is also the perfect combination of stone-piling skill with arts.
